Does it make sense that hospital executive and non-frontline administrators get COVID vaccines before our frontline doctors, nurses, and personal support workers? Of course not! 

Doug Ford didn’t have a strategy to prioritize some of the most important people fighting the pandemic: Our community health care workers. He passed off his responsibility to hospitals and public health without a strategy, causing inconsistency and inequities across the whole province.

Instead of calling on those who see patients every day to roll up their sleeves, Doug Ford has given no guidance to hospitals and Public Health Units on who should get those “extra shots” at the end of every day. The result is a patchwork of policies that see administrators, researchers, and others who aren’t seeing patients getting shots before those serving our community.

What Doug Ford Needs To Do To Get Shots to Community Health Care Workers

We need a central priority list of all community doctors, nurses, and PSWs in our province, and for the government to set up a 24/7 command centre that would identify where the extra shots are, and send these frontline workers to available shots. 

If “everything is on the table”, then nothing is impossible. All it takes is a little leadership, a little “out of the box” thinking. There are so many tools out there that we can use to set up a list and to set up a virtual call centre, why isn’t the government putting anything on the table?
